Transparent display or hologram display?
A transparent screen shows content you can see through. A hologram display puts that screen in a lit cabinet, so a person or product seems to stand inside it.

A transparent display is a see-through screen: LED, OLED or LCD. On its own, it shows content over whatever is behind it. A hologram display, like HoloBox911, sets a transparent 4K panel inside a lit, enclosed cabinet, and the content is made with the subject standing clear. So a person or product seems to stand inside the box at full size. Choose a bare transparent screen for windows and facades, and a hologram display when one subject should appear in the room.
The four options side by side
Three kinds of transparent screen are sold today, and a hologram display is built around one of them. The first three columns are general traits of each technology, not any brand.
| Transparent LED | Transparent OLED | Transparent LCD | Hologram display (HoloBox911) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Rows of LEDs on glass or strips, with gaps you see through | Pixels make their own light; unlit areas are see-through | Liquid crystals shutter a backlight; dark areas block the view | A transparent 4K panel inside a lit cabinet, with content made for it |
| Best viewing | From a distance; bright, even in daylight | Up close, in normal indoor light | Up close, where the image can sit on a light background | Up close and around the unit, in a normal lit room |
| Typical use | Shop windows, facades, large glass | Retail windows, premium counters | Display cases and fridges | A person, product or AI avatar at full height |
| What you see behind it | The real scene behind the glass | The real scene behind the glass | The real scene behind the glass | The inside of the cabinet, so the subject stands alone |
| Touch and AI | Not usually | Possible, added separately | Possible, added separately | 10-point touch, AI avatars and live telepresence built in |
When a bare transparent screen is the better choice
- Shop windows and facades: passers-by should see the store through the content.
- Large or outdoor glass: daylight needs the brightness of transparent LED.
- Labels over real products: text or prices floating over goods in a display case.
When a hologram display is the better choice
- A person at full height: a leader or AI host who seems to stand in the room, as at Maruti Suzuki's MQFC 2.0.
- A product you can't bring: Fluidra showed an Olympic pool and plant room in 3D at SFI Expo 2026.
- Something visitors talk to or touch: an AI receptionist like Maya at Race Eco Chain, or a touch menu like NatWest Group's.
- One clear focal point: a single stand or lobby where people should walk towards one thing.
Why the cabinet matters
On a bare transparent screen, the busy room behind the glass shows through the content. Inside a HoloBox911, the lit cabinet gives the subject a clean, controlled background. The person or product then reads as standing in a space of its own, rather than floating over whatever happens to be behind the screen. That's the difference between a see-through screen and a hologram display.
What to check before you choose
- The job: see how to choose a hologram display.
- The room: light, space and route. See what a venue needs.
- Rent or buy: see rent, buy or lease.
- Other formats: hologram projector or display, hologram fan or life-size and hologram display or LED wall.
Questions, answered.
Is a hologram display the same as a transparent display?
No. A hologram display uses a transparent panel, but sets it inside a lit cabinet, with content made for it. The subject then seems to stand inside the box, rather than float over the room behind the glass.
Which transparent display works in daylight?
Transparent LED, which is the brightest type and is used on shop fronts and facades. HoloBox911 is for indoor use, away from direct sun.
Can a transparent display show a person life-size?
A large one can show the image, but the room behind it shows through. HoloBox911 puts a person at full height on an 86-inch panel, in a cabinet that keeps the background clean.
Does HoloBox911 take touch?
Yes. It has 10-point infrared touch across the whole panel, and it runs AI avatars and live telepresence.
Can I see the difference in person?
Yes. You can see a HoloBox911 running at our Noida Experience Centre or our other offices, by appointment.
